The Party's Over is Talk Talk's debut album, and it is the perfect synth pop/new wave album. The music is heavy with electronic sounds and has a biting attitude reminiscent of punk (but much lighter)/5(62).

Mark Hollis' voice is like another instrument unto itself; dark, brooding, and almost sedately muffled into the background. "Talk Talk" is pure New Romantic synth-pop. Songs like "Today" and "Hate" fill up the stereo with heavy purcussion. "The Party's Over" is a multi-layered orchestral track and "(It's so) Serious" is a standout synth-pop ballad/5(30).

May 19,  · With all of the songs that encompass the album The Party’s Over, it’s interesting to note that Mark Hollis had penned those tracks for his previous band The Reaction, leaving me wondering if one should consider this to be a post-Reaction review or a Talk Talk review. Regardless, this is one of those albums that climbed the charts during the 80’s, at a time when most music fans found the 4/5().

Talk Talk began life as a slavishly derivative, Duran Duran-styled new romantic synth pop band, as their debut, The Party's Over, clearly shows. Much of the album seems to attempt to recreate Duran Duran's debut, but even with their most blatant rip-offs, like the single "Talk Talk," they do it with a naïve charm that makes for some really enjoyable music, even if it isn't particularly innovative or groundbreaking.7/
